“It's cheap and easy” isn't the whole story.

Everyone says Thailand is affordable and stress-free. Then the visa rules change, the comments contradict each other, and a cheap first month quietly turns into thousands.

Some people never make the move at all, because there's so much conflicting information they don't know where to begin. This Playbook gives you one clear order to follow: what to do before you leave, the week you land, and once you're settling in.

Our first month cost about $3,500, and it never felt like it, because everything seemed so affordable.Mr. Monami, retired U.S. Army veteran, on moving his family of four to Pattaya

Fifteen steps, three phases, one order.

Each phase is finished before the next begins. Rushing or reordering is what causes most expensive return trips.

Step 3: Arrange a Real Onward Ticket

PHASE 1 | PRE-DEPARTURE

Airlines and Thai immigration officers can ask for proof that you will leave Thailand before your allowed stay ends. Treat this step as non-negotiable, and use a real, purchased ticket.

Do not use fake onward ticket services. The consequences can include denial of entry.

I'm Mr. Monami, a retired U.S. Army veteran. I've lived in Korea, Europe, the Philippines and now Thailand, and I moved my wife, our daughter and my brother-in-law here.

Questions

Is it up to date?
Yes. It was updated in October 2026, including the September 15, 2026 change that gives U.S. citizens 30 days visa-free, with one 30-day extension. Rules change, so every visa section points you to the official source to confirm before you travel.
How do I get it after I pay?
A download button appears on the confirmation page as soon as your payment goes through, and you'll get an email with your access link. You can also sign in to your order history any time to download it again.
I'm not a veteran. Is it still useful?
Yes. The veteran sections are clearly marked, and there's a separate health insurance section for everyone else. The 15-step plan is the same for every American.
Does it cover the Philippines?
Not yet. This Playbook is Thailand only.
Is this legal or immigration advice?
No. It's a practical plan from someone who made the move. If your situation is complicated, book a consultation with a licensed immigration professional before you apply.
